Transportation Outreach Project Manager

Glover Park Village is seeking a volunteer to help improve transportation planning and coordination for our Glover Park members, with the goal of enhancing mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Transportation is the most-requested service through the Village website, and improving accessibility will have an impact on many of our villagers.

This volunteer work includes the tasks described below and may take up to four hours per week throughout the coming year (December 2023 through January 2025). Direct project expenses will be supported by a small grant from Capitol Hill Village. Other volunteers may be recruited to support you in this endeavor.

This is an important part of the Glover Park Village outreach program to support our neighbors who need transportation to go to a doctor’s appointment, visit a loved one or simply get out of Dodge for a few hours.

Tasks:

  1. Do research/interviews and create report on Glover Park Village’s current volunteer driver policies and transportation service tracking.

  2. Provide monthly report of overview of volunteer rides requested, with a breakdown of population served and alternative ride options. Submit data in a Monthly Village Transportation Tracker (format to be supplied by Capitol Hill Village project manager).

  3. Represent Glover Park Village (joined by at least one other volunteer) in a transportation training session conducted by Capitol Hill Village Transportation Educator/Provider. Training may be a combination of in-person or virtual, and will include how-to guides and presentations by service providers.

  4. Lead one or more training sessions for Glover Park Village volunteers and service recipients, to increase participants’ awareness of our region’s transportation services and providers – and how to take advantage of them. This may include events at Guy Mason, field trips using the Metro system, and other learning opportunities.

Project Goals:

Expand our driver program through recruitment, training, and management of volunteer drivers.
